The Quick Six: Sprains and Strains

Another common-use combination in the Quick Six, we use this for sprains and strains of muscles, ligaments, tendons, and the like.

This remedy is included in the G4 Kit, now available in the shop! Click to learn more.

It helps with acute injuries as well as injuries from overuse.  Most sprains and strains are obvious due to swelling.  Injuries from overuse can be more perplexing.  For instance, if you haven’t exercised in a while, then you feel quite sore after some serious exertion, this combination would come in handy.  With all of the carrying, moving, etc. that we do for my daughter, it comes in handy every once in a while when we tweak something too.  I surely wish I’d had it when I fell down the stairs!

I put it in oil for my G4 Kit for those occasions of more localized issues.  One client uses it on her neck and says that now she can turn her neck “like an owl” LOL!

Remedies:

Arnica–to reduce swelling, bleeding, bruising, and other soft tissue trauma
Rhus Tox–for stiffness in ligaments and tendons
Ruta–connective tissue and that special spot where bones and tendons meet [helps with the “how do you do?”]

Using It:

Whether for an acute injury or one from overuse, I would give a single dry dose, then put another dose in a water bottle [whatever you have handy will work; however, if you have a choice, a glass bottle or sports bottle with distilled water in it is ideal].  Subsequently, each drink from the “remedy water bottle” would be a dose.

As with almost all dosing in homeopathy, I would follow the principle of minimum dose, giving doses only as needed.  As a guideline, typically, we would say that one shouldn’t exceed 2-4 doses in a day.

The Quick Six: Cuts and Bumps [My First Aid Combo]

This remedy is included in the G4 Kit, now available in the shop! Click to learn more.

I probably use this more than any other homeopathic, which is why it leads off the Quick Six.

It contains remedies to abate swelling, bruising, bleeding, nerve damage, and infection.  It works astoundingly well as a topical, so I keep it in a spray bottle in my purse and around the house.

We had been using it for a while, actually, when my youngest tripped and hit his chin on the corner of an art table.  I held him and applied the First Aid spray frequently with a gauze pad.  He fell asleep, and by the end of his nap, his chin looked good.  Phew. But that night, when brushing his teeth, I noticed that his gum was injured under the chin wound.  The next day, it looked infected and I took him to the doctor.  The recommended herbs etc. did not help, so that night in a moment of hope, desperation, and likely Divine inspiration, I grabbed the First Aid spray, pulled his lip out for a moment, then sprayed the site.  Within 10 minutes, the infection was completely healed.  Thank you, homeopathy!

Remedies:

Arnica–to reduce swelling, bleeding, bruising, and other soft tissue trauma
Calendula–to fight infection
Hypericum–to preserve and repair nerves from damage [and remember, the fingertips, toes, and tailbone are very high in nerves!]

Uses:

I use this for just about anything but primarily cuts and bumps…It does well for almost every injury affecting the skin but isn’t optimal for burns or bites [it helps burns and bumps but doesn’t fully resolve the issue]. Honestly, I rarely use the oral version anymore–I mostly use the spray!  Still, if I had only one vial of remedy with me, it would be this combination.  Or maybe Major Injuries for major emergencies.  Tough call.  [By the way, First Aid Oil is in the G4 Kit too.  It’s crazy handy!]

As I did in the situation with my son’s gum, if an area is wet [such as the mouth typically is], I try to dry it a bit first, thereby making it more receptive to the spray–like I recommend for the Dental treatment spray.  If you have to choose between drying it and getting the remedy onto the wounded area, I would opt for the latter–the sooner you treat it, the better!

If we had a true emergency, of course, we would head to the hospital foremost, and if we had the remedy with us, we would apply it or take it orally en route.FirstAidSpray

Spray Preparation:

1-3 doses per 2 oz. of clean tap water [the chemicals in the tap water actually help preserve the remedy water].  Watch the water, then, to make sure it doesn’t get gunky, because there is no alcohol or glycerin etc. in the spray preparation to preserve it.  I’ve typically gone 6-12 months with it being just fine, though one bottle of the First Aid remedy spray rarely lasts that long.

The Quick Six [game-changers, life-changers, world healers]

Many in alternative medicine consider allopathic medicine to be well-suited for emergency situations, and surely it is. There are these spaces, though, shy of emergency, where homeopathy has been very helpful to my family.  In fact, in my own family, I have found homeopathic first aid to be a major relief and contribution to my peace of mind and our wellbeing.

SilverKitHomeopathy can contribute in two major ways:  Ability to address the issue completely or at least to help enough to give you time to get to an emergency room.

Long story short [and you know that’s hard for me!], I have arrived at a simple list of 6 homeopathic remedies/combinations which have been of tremendous help to me, my family, and those with whom I’ve shared them.  I keep wondering … if every household in the world had access to and used these, might these be game-changers, life-changers, world healers?

Let’s spread the word and find out!  [That’s what leads me to post this info and how-to here ….]

The way this kit can be assembled, the remedies are straight-forward, easy to select, easy to use.  Here’s the low-down on the list, with further details including how to assemble your own kit, to come in subsequent posts:

Cuts & Bumps [My First Aid Combo]:  Reduce swelling, bleeding, bruising; fight infection; and repair and protect nerves.

Sprains & Strains:  Addresses swelling and bruising as well as injuries to ligaments, tendons, and connective tissue.

Burns:  Reduces the inflammation, pain, nerve damage, and blistering involved in burn injuries.

Major Injuries:  For head injuries and any other major injury, this is one to take en route to the hospital.

Immune Boosting:  Fight-off germs to prevent the flu from taking hold.

Bites & Stings:  This combination is beneficial for healing from puncture wounds and insect bites.

Remember that for surface injuries, you also can dilute one dose in 2-4 oz. of water, take a sip, and apply the rest of the remedy topically–for bumps, stings, sprains, or burns, for example.  So one dose can go a long way!

Stay tuned for more detailed information …..

My Personal Energy Therapist [Can Be Yours Too]

For [less than, most likely] the price of one massage [they cost $7-11 ea. and 2-5 pieces will get you far], you can get a lifetime of relief from all kinds of ailments, from stiff or tight muscles to headaches.  These little gems have proven their worth in our house, much to my amazement and complete delight.

They save me time, they save me money, and they give me relief, comfort, and therein plenty of joy.

Processed with MoldivI just tape or clip [in my hair for a headache] them into place and voila, aaaaaah.

Where to get them:

I have bought my clear quartz crystal spheres from Gemisphere and Starlight.  Other crystal shops also carry them, and they are available via Etsy too.

How to use them:

I generally simply place them at the site of the discomfort or where I think the discomfort originates and where its reach ends.  So, for instance, if my forearm hurt, I might put a couple of crystals at my shoulder and one in the palm of my hand.  On the other hand, for a headache I’d most likely create a circle of spheres around the part of my head that hurts.

I leave them on for 20-30 minutes, sometimes longer.  When they start to irritate, or if I’m headed out the door, I take them off!

Gemisphere states that clear quartz brings life energy and balance to the area where it is placed.  In general, I understand that clear quartz dispels problematic energy and amplifies beneficial energies.

I also use them to clear my chakras.  Gemisphere has instructions for several therapies as well–chakras, metabolism, eyes, and awareness.  They also state that wearing a clear quartz crystal necklace after the therapy can help you hold the healing benefits of the therapy for longer.

How to take care of them:

Healing crystals must be cleared and re-charged.  Gemisphere has a variety of recommendations for clearing and rejuvenating crystals and gemstones.

I actually clear and re-charge mine with each use, though that is not generally considered necessary.

My preferred method is to put them in the sun, because that clears and rejuvenates them nicely.  A direct sun shining through a clear quartz crystal could start a fire, so you have to be careful with that.  Gemisphere recommends only 20 minutes in the sun for that reason.

I set mine in a glass bowl in the sunshine on a windowsill and sometimes take the bowl outside on a nice afternoon.

If we are sunshine-free for a while, I clear them under running water prayerfully until I sense that the spheres are clear [about 30 seconds].  You can also put it in a bentonite clay [detoxifying] bath.

Enjoy!

Dental Treatment Support

If you have a stiff dental hygiene appointment or other dental work scheduled, homeopathy can be a helpful support.  Here is what I do:

The Remedy Combo

Using either a spritzer or a dropper bottle, fill with distilled or purified water, ideally, then add one dose of each of the following remedies, in whatever potencies you have between 6c and 200c:

Arnica [swelling, bleeding, bruising]

Calendula [healing wounds]

Hypericum [nerve injuries]

Ruta [great for dental work and for connective tissue in general]

How To Use It

About 10 minutes before the work starts, try to dry out the area around where the work will be done and apply the remedy water to it.

Repeat after the work is done, and then every 2-3 hours for upto 3 days as necessary for comfort if you had a lot of work done.

Staph Infections

Homeopathic Staphysagria often is used to treat Staph Infections [as are other remedies].

We have used it twice in my home–once for my dog’s stye and once for an itchy affection on my ankle diagnosed as a Staph infection.  At the time of my dog’s stye, the vet simply recommended a protocol of a few weekly doses of Staphysagria 200c.  It did clear the stye up in due time.

For mine, my naturopath recommended Staphysagria 1M as well as topically applied honey.  I did take the few doses of Staphysagria 1M because I felt that the underlying emotional issues [a type of grieving] were present and needed resolving.  It did help.

Dilute a few pillules in unto 8 oz. of water.
Dissolve a dose in 1 oz. of water.

However, for more immediate relief, what helped most was dissolving Staphysagria 200c in water and swabbing the area with it.  I think I had to do two such swabs, maybe 4-6 days apart to get complete resolution, but I did get immediate relief upon even the first application.

Topical use of homeopathic remedies in 200c, dissolved in water, seems to be something unique to me, but it is incredibly successful for everything for which I’ve used it or recommended it.  And, better yet, in our quick-results world, it seems to yield results within 10-15 minutes [except for issues like acne, where results are significant and visible the next morning but require repeat use for complete resolution].

You can get Staphysagria 200c from local stores sometimes, like Pharmaca and sometimes a healthfood store, or you can order it online:

United States:

Hahnemann Labs

Washington Homeopathic Products carries it in pills or in alcohol-preserved liquid.

Europe:

Helios [London] carries it in pills or liquid.

Remedia [Austria] also carries it in pills or liquid — look for C200.

As a reminder, to dissolve pillules in water for topical application, just put one dose in an ounce of purified water and dissolve.

Also, FYI — According to the Mayo Clinic, staph infections typically are mild and simply irritating but can be incredibly dangerous, getting deep into the body.  So take them seriously!

Physically Exhausted? From the flu, exams, trials, conferences, ….

The flu that is going around has reminded me of the value of Kali Phosphoricum, a “tissue salt” or “cell salt.”  More on that part later.  The short of it is that Kali Phos or kali-p is crazy helpful when you’ve just endured something physically depleting.

Beforehand:  If you know you are headed into something physically depleting, like a court trial, conference, performance, emergency response team, or tournament, you can take it once a day for unto two weeks to help keep your vitality up.

Afterwards:  If you’re depleted from the flu, Kali Phos 3X or 6X can ease your symptoms at that end stage and shorten the duration of it too.  This is especially true if your symptoms get worse as the day goes on, and if you feel sluggish in general, even though you’re over the worst of it.

The same goes for depletion after a court trial, exams, conferences, performance, tournament, etc. if you didn’t anticipate it with the Kali Phos!

12 Tissue Salts & Kali Phos
12 Tissue Salts & Kali Phos

Cell Salts:  There are 12 so-called tissue salts, also called cell salts.  They were determined by Schussler to be the foundation of all the cells in the body.  You can get a 12-salt combo, sometimes called BioPlasma, for those states of real depletion.  [I mentioned this combo in the post about remedies for business travel.]

Dosing:  Typically, we take cell salts in lower potencies on the X scale, which means you probably would be taking it 3-4 times a day for a few days to help coax yourself back to full capacity.  They can be helpful as a general go-to, during or after a draining experience, or in times of crisis when you need to stay well–and indeed often are used for so-called vulnerable populations [elderly, children] by homeopathic teams responding during times of crisis.

Learn More:  Miranda Castro has written a substantial and well-regarded piece on the 12 cell salts, for those who are interested in learning more.

To your health!

When you feel well, your light shines brighter.  When your light shines brighter, you share it with more of Creation.  It’s a beautiful, magnificent Light Ripple, and it starts with you!

FYI–Coupon on Therapeutic Gemstones

One of my favorite sources for gemstones, as you know, is Gemisphere.  They have introduced a new, smaller size of sphere [6 mm], and they’re offering $25 off all 6 mm necklaces until tomorrow with the code HELLO6.  Free shipping on all gemstones too.

One of the best deals, and one of the most fundamental gemstone necklaces, in my opinion, is Black Onyx and the smallest one is $45, which means you’d pay $20 for it with the coupon.

Black Onyx is fantastic for grounding, and is therefore really helpful for almost everyone, including kids.

Here’s a quick story about why I fell head-over-heels for this stone:

My daughter was young, and she would cry constantly unless I was in the backseat of the car with her.  I was ready to feel like an adult–to sit in the front seat next to my husband!  So, one day, after a hike, I was inspired [Divinely, no doubt] to request my husband’s onyx necklace.  I placed it over the back of the front passenger headrest, in front of my daughter then hopped into the front passenger seat.

Would you believe that she was perfectly contented up there?

If you are intuitively gifted or have a child who is, this is an amazing stone!  Even having it nearby [say, on you!] is helpful.  I recently gifted one of these necklaces to a mom, and she said her children call it the “magic necklace” because of its properties.

I agree!

A Good Remedy for Thick Mucous + How to Use Homeopathic Combinations and Syrups

There’s a flu going around just now that responds to Oscillococcinum initially–also if you take a microdose [just a few granules] after exposure and before onset, you can stave it off completely–and then moves into a congestion stage with frontal sinus pain, post-nasal drip, and/or cough.

I’m a fan of Kali Iodatum for a lot of these thick mucous – cough situations.  It is not in the homeopathic literature with that kind of description, exactly.  Boiron says it’s for colds with frontal sinus pain.  Similisan has it in a mucus syrup for cold, fever, sneezing, runny nose, and head congestion.

But I actually find it helpful in situations where one might consider Kali Bichromicum but Kali Bich does not help or where one is more mucous than that.  In a lot of ways, it is actually my go-to for a mucous cough.

Combinations:  Useful, and Here’s a Trick:

Similisan's Mucous Syrup Active Ingredients List + Kali Iodatum in 30c and 200c.
Similisan’s Mucous Syrup Active Ingredients List + Kali Iodatum in 30c and 200c.

I discovered Kali Iodatum on account of success using Similisan’s mucous syrup for my daughter.

One thing I used to do early on in my homeopathic usage days was that if a commercially available combination worked [such as in this syrup], I would check the back of the box/bottle.  There, you’ll find a list of the homeopathic remedies contained in therein, as well as the symptoms for which they are included.  I’d pick the remedy that I thought most closely matched the symptoms for which I was using the product, and then I would buy that remedy in potency.

Often, combination homeopathic products contain low potencies — often X potencies and sometimes low C potencies.  So if a combination homeopathic product is helping but not enough or for less than two hours between doses, consider selecting the best-matching remedy from their ingredients list and purchasing that one in potency [e.g., as 30c from your local healthful store or 200c from some specialty pharmacies, like Hahnemann Labs].  You might recall that’s my ‘ping’ method:  If a remedy works a little bit but not enough, chances are that you need a higher potency.  If it helps sufficiently but you need to re-dose in less than 2 hours, it’s also often a sign that you would benefit from the next-higher potency, if you have it.

A Couple of Stories:

My dad recently caught the flu from someone sitting behind him on a 4-hour flight.  The poor fellow was hacking and coughing miserably the entire time, and by the time my dad returned home a few days later, he was sinking quickly.  Had he taken Oscillococcinum or other immune boosters right then and there, he might’ve been fine.  But anyway, he took Oscillococcinum for a couple of days until the aching and fatigue and fog lifted.

Then the nasal stuff set-in.  He used a combination of what he had–Kali Bichromicum 30c and Similisan Mucous Syrup–in water for a couple of days, which eased his cough to the point where he considered it a simple trail-end of a cough and helped him sleep at night.  [In particular, the Kali Bich seemed to reduce the kind of prolonged coughing sessions, but the Similisan syrup helped him sleep at night.  So we combined them in 8 oz. of water for dosing day and night, if needed.]

Though my father felt that there was no more help to be had, I was thinking that he should continue pursuing healing from this, and here’s why:

–The guy on the plane was miserable, so it sounded to me like one tough virus.

–I had heard that people using conventional approaches were suffering a flu that was followed by 3-4 weeks of a miserable cough.

–It is much easier to maintain a healing momentum, to nip something, than it is after the vital force has been made dreary by weeks of fighting the virus.

So, when I saw my father, I gave him one dose of Kali Iodatum 30c and one dose of Kali Iodatum 200c.  He putt he 30c in water and felt only a little benefit.  So he put the 200c in water, and he was finally cough-free for 12 hours.  But he still was a little gunky, so occasional dosing was still required.

Tip:  One of the mistakes that we tend to make with homeopathy is dosing too seldom and for too short a duration.  Make sure that you really stay tuned-in to how you are responding to a remedy, and stay on-top of your dosing.  Don’t quit too soon, either!

One more story that also relates to combinations… My neighbor’s little one was suffering from colic.  She had tried everything and now was considering just about anything.  I said I’d put together a remedy for her, and I intuitively chose Carbo Veg 200c.  Meanwhile, she was headed to the store where she picked up Cocyntal, a Boiron homeopathic combination for colic.  She had to give him doses every few hours, but she was amazed at how well he responded to it and that he was able to sleep so easily, etc.  Ironically, it has Carbo Vegetabilis in it!  So, when she gave him the Carbo Veg 200c the next day, he only needed one dose and that was the end of his colic!

Sidenotes:  I read an interesting article in Homeopathy Today about the use of Polarity Analysis in cases of infant colic.  The author stated that typically one dose of the correct remedy in 200c is sufficient to put an end to the colic.  Although Carbo Vegetables is not an oft-cited remedy for colic, it is remarkable that Boiron selected it for inclusion in their colic combination.

Interestingly, Carbo Vegetabilis is made from vegetable charcoal and the “homeopathic corpse reviver.”  In my reading on the matter I discovered that infants who were blue or flat-lined or lacking that initial first breath and then develop colic often benefit from Carbo Vegetabilis.  My neighbor did not know for sure if her son fit that profile, but her labor and delivery were complicated and ended with a difficult forceps delivery.  I thought how beautiful of homeopathy and Spirit to know that and help this baby heal from that experience and its ramifications.

Unrelated Tip:  If life is rough and you find yourself feeling sorry for yourself, or like you are not worthy, or you do not have enough, give.  Do something for someone else in whatever way feeds your soul.

Weeding: The Homeopathic Healing Process

I see homeopathy like weeding.  You can lop the weed off above ground, but that typically will not get you anywhere in the long run.  It might look like there’s no weed, but there’s a weed.  And a weed root system, linking itself to and nourishing yet another weed.

I like to get those roots and get the whole weed or weed system out so that the other plants can flourish.

So does homeopathy [and some other forms of healing, too, to be sure].

Do you remember the story about my friend’s daughter [scroll down to paragraph 6 in the Oxygen Deprivation at Birth section]?  The first remedy that I gave sweet Miss C was Baryta Carb 30c.  She took that once a month for two years–my friend called those two years “dreamy” because her daughter’s life had become so much more enjoyable with the blessing of homeopathy.  Then, one day last Fall, she said that she was not sure that her daughter was continuing to respond to the Baryta Carb insofar as it no longer relieved the painful muscle spasms.

This place in healing can catch people by surprise sometimes.  Most of the time in homeopathy, it simply means that a change in potency or a change in remedy is needed.  This is one more step on the path to clearing the deeper weeds or another grouping of weeds.

Sometimes, fewer remedies are required in the curative process.  Sometimes even just one.  On the other hand, when you have a considerable ongoing externally induced stress in your life, it is like constantly adding weeds, each of which needs a new remedy.  We can still make headway, but it can be slower going or require additional support.

So, back to Miss C, I checked with my intuition to see whether a higher potency would be beneficial to her or a new remedy.  What came to me was the need for the new remedy, and the remedy was Oxygenium.  This was exciting, because it meant that we were getting closer to the source of the injury / weeds [since the original injury was due to loss of oxygen before birth].

Miss C started Oxygenium and has begun showing some developmental progress, at age 9!  One thing that I have seen repeatedly in individuals healing their brain injuries is that cognition comes alive with homeopathy.  I also am seeing a tendency to move through the same basic stages of development as typically-developing babies and toddlers.

In this case, Miss C began swiping at objects placed in front of her and figured out how to scooch herself off the bed.  This is sooo exciting!  You might recall that a neurologist once gave her 6 months to live for a total life expectancy of 3 years.  That there were 17 no’s due to such significant brain injury before her mom found even one person who was willing to give Miss C CranioSacral Therapy.

Not to mention the number of times and people who assume that Miss C has no cognition, does not truly recognize her mother’s voice, or have the ability to experience emotion.

All underestimating her.

But her mother never underestimated her, and God never underestimated her.

Will you join me in a prayer?

Dear God,

Thank you for this day, this time, and the blessing of this moment.
Thank you for healing, for love, and for all that is for and from Your love.
Thank you for knowing me, believing me, trusting me, and helping me to move forward in this life that You gave me for my betterment.
Thank you for this chance, and thank you for my life.

Amen.
