Physically Exhausted? From the flu, exams, trials, conferences, ….

The flu that is going around has reminded me of the value of Kali Phosphoricum, a “tissue salt” or “cell salt.”  More on that part later.  The short of it is that Kali Phos or kali-p is crazy helpful when you’ve just endured something physically depleting.

Beforehand:  If you know you are headed into something physically depleting, like a court trial, conference, performance, emergency response team, or tournament, you can take it once a day for unto two weeks to help keep your vitality up.

Afterwards:  If you’re depleted from the flu, Kali Phos 3X or 6X can ease your symptoms at that end stage and shorten the duration of it too.  This is especially true if your symptoms get worse as the day goes on, and if you feel sluggish in general, even though you’re over the worst of it.

The same goes for depletion after a court trial, exams, conferences, performance, tournament, etc. if you didn’t anticipate it with the Kali Phos!

Cell Salts:  There are 12 so-called tissue salts, also called cell salts.  They were determined by Schussler to be the foundation of all the cells in the body.  You can get a 12-salt combo, sometimes called BioPlasma, for those states of real depletion.  [I mentioned this combo in the post about remedies for business travel.]

Dosing:  Typically, we take cell salts in lower potencies on the X scale, which means you probably would be taking it 3-4 times a day for a few days to help coax yourself back to full capacity.  They can be helpful as a general go-to, during or after a draining experience, or in times of crisis when you need to stay well–and indeed often are used for so-called vulnerable populations [elderly, children] by homeopathic teams responding during times of crisis.

Learn More:  Miranda Castro has written a substantial and well-regarded piece on the 12 cell salts, for those who are interested in learning more.

To your health!

When you feel well, your light shines brighter.  When your light shines brighter, you share it with more of Creation.  It’s a beautiful, magnificent Light Ripple, and it starts with you!

A Good Remedy for Thick Mucous + How to Use Homeopathic Combinations and Syrups

There’s a flu going around just now that responds to Oscillococcinum initially–also if you take a microdose [just a few granules] after exposure and before onset, you can stave it off completely–and then moves into a congestion stage with frontal sinus pain, post-nasal drip, and/or cough.

I’m a fan of Kali Iodatum for a lot of these thick mucous – cough situations.  It is not in the homeopathic literature with that kind of description, exactly.  Boiron says it’s for colds with frontal sinus pain.  Similisan has it in a mucus syrup for cold, fever, sneezing, runny nose, and head congestion.

But I actually find it helpful in situations where one might consider Kali Bichromicum but Kali Bich does not help or where one is more mucous than that.  In a lot of ways, it is actually my go-to for a mucous cough.

Combinations:  Useful, and Here’s a Trick:

Similisan's Mucous Syrup Active Ingredients List + Kali Iodatum in 30c and 200c.
Similisan’s Mucous Syrup Active Ingredients List + Kali Iodatum in 30c and 200c.

I discovered Kali Iodatum on account of success using Similisan’s mucous syrup for my daughter.

One thing I used to do early on in my homeopathic usage days was that if a commercially available combination worked [such as in this syrup], I would check the back of the box/bottle.  There, you’ll find a list of the homeopathic remedies contained in therein, as well as the symptoms for which they are included.  I’d pick the remedy that I thought most closely matched the symptoms for which I was using the product, and then I would buy that remedy in potency.

Often, combination homeopathic products contain low potencies — often X potencies and sometimes low C potencies.  So if a combination homeopathic product is helping but not enough or for less than two hours between doses, consider selecting the best-matching remedy from their ingredients list and purchasing that one in potency [e.g., as 30c from your local healthful store or 200c from some specialty pharmacies, like Hahnemann Labs].  You might recall that’s my ‘ping’ method:  If a remedy works a little bit but not enough, chances are that you need a higher potency.  If it helps sufficiently but you need to re-dose in less than 2 hours, it’s also often a sign that you would benefit from the next-higher potency, if you have it.

A Couple of Stories:

My dad recently caught the flu from someone sitting behind him on a 4-hour flight.  The poor fellow was hacking and coughing miserably the entire time, and by the time my dad returned home a few days later, he was sinking quickly.  Had he taken Oscillococcinum or other immune boosters right then and there, he might’ve been fine.  But anyway, he took Oscillococcinum for a couple of days until the aching and fatigue and fog lifted.

Then the nasal stuff set-in.  He used a combination of what he had–Kali Bichromicum 30c and Similisan Mucous Syrup–in water for a couple of days, which eased his cough to the point where he considered it a simple trail-end of a cough and helped him sleep at night.  [In particular, the Kali Bich seemed to reduce the kind of prolonged coughing sessions, but the Similisan syrup helped him sleep at night.  So we combined them in 8 oz. of water for dosing day and night, if needed.]

Though my father felt that there was no more help to be had, I was thinking that he should continue pursuing healing from this, and here’s why:

–The guy on the plane was miserable, so it sounded to me like one tough virus.

–I had heard that people using conventional approaches were suffering a flu that was followed by 3-4 weeks of a miserable cough.

–It is much easier to maintain a healing momentum, to nip something, than it is after the vital force has been made dreary by weeks of fighting the virus.

So, when I saw my father, I gave him one dose of Kali Iodatum 30c and one dose of Kali Iodatum 200c.  He putt he 30c in water and felt only a little benefit.  So he put the 200c in water, and he was finally cough-free for 12 hours.  But he still was a little gunky, so occasional dosing was still required.

Tip:  One of the mistakes that we tend to make with homeopathy is dosing too seldom and for too short a duration.  Make sure that you really stay tuned-in to how you are responding to a remedy, and stay on-top of your dosing.  Don’t quit too soon, either!

One more story that also relates to combinations… My neighbor’s little one was suffering from colic.  She had tried everything and now was considering just about anything.  I said I’d put together a remedy for her, and I intuitively chose Carbo Veg 200c.  Meanwhile, she was headed to the store where she picked up Cocyntal, a Boiron homeopathic combination for colic.  She had to give him doses every few hours, but she was amazed at how well he responded to it and that he was able to sleep so easily, etc.  Ironically, it has Carbo Vegetabilis in it!  So, when she gave him the Carbo Veg 200c the next day, he only needed one dose and that was the end of his colic!

Sidenotes:  I read an interesting article in Homeopathy Today about the use of Polarity Analysis in cases of infant colic.  The author stated that typically one dose of the correct remedy in 200c is sufficient to put an end to the colic.  Although Carbo Vegetables is not an oft-cited remedy for colic, it is remarkable that Boiron selected it for inclusion in their colic combination.

Interestingly, Carbo Vegetabilis is made from vegetable charcoal and the “homeopathic corpse reviver.”  In my reading on the matter I discovered that infants who were blue or flat-lined or lacking that initial first breath and then develop colic often benefit from Carbo Vegetabilis.  My neighbor did not know for sure if her son fit that profile, but her labor and delivery were complicated and ended with a difficult forceps delivery.  I thought how beautiful of homeopathy and Spirit to know that and help this baby heal from that experience and its ramifications.

Unrelated Tip:  If life is rough and you find yourself feeling sorry for yourself, or like you are not worthy, or you do not have enough, give.  Do something for someone else in whatever way feeds your soul.

Homeopathy for Easier Business Travel

Too busy to DIY? A Custom Kit gets it done for you.

Business travel can bring with it a host of stressors, both physical and emotional.  Homeopathy can be of great support.   The following tips will help you gather remedies to help you thrive rather than survive [or buy a customized kit].  A constitutional remedy also should help you with these and most other ailments listed here.

Boost Your Immune System:

The simplest recommendations here are to…
–stay hydrated by drinking clean water and using either a saline nasal spray or personal humidifier [or both], especially in dry climates or smoky places;
–consume plenty of Vitamin C;
–and get as much rest as possible.  [Use these tips to help you rest your mind so you can sleep, and see the next section when even these don’t help.]

Sleep Better:

Unfamiliar surroundings, extended schedules, and the stress of travel can disrupt sleep.  Look to these homeopathic remedies when sleep still evades …
–homesickness alone can cause problems with sleep and your enjoyment of your trip, so if you’re prone to that, consider packing Phosphoric Acid 30c [also remember it for other ailments due to emotional trauma or stress]
–being overtired can make it more difficult to fall asleep, and that’s a time to try some simple options like lavender or grounding, but if those don’t tend to help, taking the combination homeopathic product CalmsForte typically helps, or single out an ingredient or two from their formula
–if fretting or an active mind is keeping you awake, and the other tips do not help, consider a magnesium supplement [but go easy if you get a conventional magnesium because it can also cause swift movement of the bowels!], NerveTonic [which also can come in handy for general mental clarity issues due to nerves], or Argentum Nitricum 30c for trouble due to anxious thoughts.

Ward Off Sickness:

If you’re shaking a lot of hands, in large crowds, spending a lot of time in public spaces and the like, especially during flu season, you might take some extra precautions such as these …
–to keep the flu at bay, take a few granules of Oscillococcinum before and after the trip or even daily during the trip if need be;
–take 2 VitaBiotic with a glass of Emergen-C at least daily but unto 3 times a day;
–wash your hands often and use a personal hand sanitizer such as this natural one by CleanWell [or by mixing 50% vinegar with 50% clean water in your own spritzer]!

Boost Your Capacity:

When you need to be “on” longer than usual and more fully than usual, it can be taxing, especially without the comforts of home to rejuvenate you at night.  These remedies can help set you up for success …
–a combination of the 12 Tissue Salts, also known as BioPlasma, can be incredibly beneficial to boosting your overall energy level, helping you recover from or maintain intense mental or physical activity;
–if you are terrified of public speaking, flying, or any of the other aspects of your trip, Aconite can be of help.  I like 12c and link to that but if you are picking it up at the store, you could get 6c and take it as needed
-skip jet lag and make the most of your trip with Helios’ Jet Lag remedy combination–try 12c or 30c every 2-4 waking hours, starting at take-off and ending at landing
–avoid anxiety at meetings and presentations with a few drops of Rescue Remedy in your water for mild stress, and Argentum Nitricum when just thinking about the event is enough to make your system nervous

Recover Faster:

The nature of business travel is such that some excesses may be unavoidable and some may be avoidable but indulged.  Homeopathy can help you recover and get back to work [or home!] in the best possible shape…
–a hoarse voice calls for Hepar Sulphur, available at most health food stores
–fatigue from standing [or dancing!] all day can be alleviated with Arnica 6c, available at most health food stores
–overindulgence in food or drink or even work can be helped with Nux Vomica, also available at most health food stores
–dehydration despite your best efforts, and the resulting fatigue, can benefit from a dose of China, also available at most health food stores
–from stomach upset due to unfamiliar food to food poisoning, Arsenicum is a good choice to have on-hand

To your health!

Busy Brain Preventing Sleep?

It can be incredibly frustrating when the body is tired but thoughts and worries flood your system.  Here are a few tricks to prevent and handle that so you can enjoy a full and splendid night of sleep:

Skip It:   Stimulants such as television, reading, alcohol, sugar can feel wonderful and relaxing in the evening, but they can rev you up too.  Try giving yourself some debriefing time before bed if you’ve watched or read something intense.  Keep your drinks small and of high quality, and have them early enough that you can detox them before bed.

Healthy habits are the ideal, and I am not a supporter of using homeopathy to correct for consistently unhealthy choices.  That said, for the occasional circumstance where you’ve indulged and still need a good night’s sleep, homeopathic Nux Vomica 30c is likely to help.

Scoop It:  If your mind is busy with thoughts or your heart is a-flutter with worries that are trivial or extraneous or in other ways unnecessary, ask your angels to help you scoop or scrape them away from you energetically so that you can relax into a good night’s sleep.  Imagine all of those thoughts and feelings being removed from your system.  You can imagine them being swept, scooped, or scraped away.  Aaah.  I taught my kids how to do this, too, when they have trouble falling asleep due to games and stories running through their minds at bedtime.

Save It:  When lists are circling in your mind like a spinning top, and these are items to which you do want to attend, try imagining gathering up each item, rolling it into a ball, and tossing it into a time when you can take care of it.  You can ask your angels to help you remember it at that time, too.  Works like a charm for me.

Soothe It:  A drop of lavender essential oil on the crown of your head before bed can soothe your whole system.

Drain It:  One of my absolute favorites at bedtime, and I try to do it for the whole family every night before bed, is the Brazilian Toe Massage.  It pulls all the energy down through the meridians [i.e., out of your head!] and is fantastically grounding.   If I forget to do it at night, no doubt my youngest will have a restless sleep and I’ll remember to do it in the middle of the night!

How do I do it for my whole family?  Energetically.  I hold my fingers as though I am doing it for my youngest and ask our angels to please simultaneously do it for the whole family and to finish it for me if I fall asleep in the middle [it is so deeply relaxing, that can and does happen].  I often do it while I say our evening prayers because I’m a hopeless multi-tasker.

Pray for It:  Praying for an excellent, refreshing night of sleep for the whole family can do wonders, not just for falling asleep but for getting the most out of your time in bed.  I recommend praying out loud with the other members of your family [so during nightly prayers with each child, for instance].

Take a Chill Pill:  I try to use homeopathy as little as possible for acute situations because it is far better to maintain healthy habits.  However, before I knew all of the above tricks, I used Hyland’s Nerve Tonic to calm my thoughts and bring on sleep.

Good night and sweet dreams!

Homeopathy for Brain Injuries

Brain injuries seem to be treated, even by many homeopaths, as untreatable and certainly incurable.  I am here to provide some hope, some ideas, some means.

Immediately

The first, best means to address a brain injury homeopathically is to give Arnica immediately afterwards.  If you have kids who play games like soccer, football, hockey, consider giving a dose or two of Arnica 6c or 30c after games involving headers, tackles, and any other hard contact involving the head.  Arnica 6c and 30c typically are readily available at any health food store like Whole Foods, and it deserves a place in every backpack, briefcase, wallet, glove compartment…  Even for ‘small’ injuries, this can help the vital force address the injury to prevent the cumulative effect.

If the injury is significant, the potency should be higher, such as Arnica 200c or 1M [also called MK or 1000c].  That’s why I carry Arnica 200c on my key fob and 1M in my purse.  If a trip to the Emergency Room is necessary, I would take [or give] a higher potency Arnica en route.

I prefer to get the higher potencies of Arnica either in granules or liquid because that makes it eminently easier to dose in an emergency situation.

Astoundingly, after the birth of my daughter, when she was not breathing, the midwives gave me Arnica but never gave it to her!  Typically, a nursing mother would be considered able to pass minute portions of the remedy on to the child, I surely wish they had given her a dose too.  With the immense fright and trauma surrounding the birth, we all would have benefitted from a dose of Aconite 200c as well [shock, fright].  Perhaps if I’d been given that, I wouldn’t have left my body when they took my baby away.

Birth Injuries

The most common homeopathic remedy for a baby who is not breathing at birth [blue babies] is Laurocerasus.  I also wish my daughter had received that at birth.  In fact, our naturopath did bring it to the hospital eventually, but the doctors there did not understand homeopathy and thought it was an herbal preparation, which they determined to be dangerous.

We did eventually bring a Cranial Osteopath to the hospital, and she made a significant difference for our daughter while she was in the NICU.  I also have a friend whose daughter had a significant brain injury due to oxygen deprivation before birth, and she had to call around but the 17th craniosacral practitioner she called did agree to treat her daughter. I went on to do a couple of years of cranial osteopathic manipulation [COM], craniosacral therapy [CST], etc., and though we did not see any significant lasting forward momentum from it, I have since realized how much it helped with the shape of her cranium, palate, airway, etc.  These are significant benefits that we simply did not notice because we were looking at the more typical milestones like sitting independently, talking, walking, etc.

Recovery

So, say you did not use homeopathy to nip the injury in the bud … Then what do you do?

Homeopathy can be of significant help even if you do not use it immediately after the injury.  Here are a few stories of friends that I have helped with homeopathy years after a brain injury …

Absence Seizures, Drowning:  A friend of mine contacted me for help with her son, who was having absence seizures.  She practiced Chinese Medicine but had not been able to help him.  She had taken him to neurologist after neurologist, and their prescriptions also had failed to help her son.  The remedy I suggested was Nat Sulph 6c.  Because I work intuitively, I often can determine the cause of a problem by intuiting the remedy.  That was true in this case, where I inquired as to whether her son had incurred a brain injury or head trauma, because Nat Sulph is known for seizures and other lasting effects of / from brain injuries.

Indeed, her son had drowned and been revived two years prior.  Though she had mentioned that event repeatedly to the neurologists, each one had told her that the near-drowning had no bearing on the absence seizures.

The Nat Sulph made significant improvements in her son’s life.  The absence seizures were significantly shorter when they did occur, and his mood improved dramatically–he was back to his old self, she said.  This is a common report with homeopathic recovery from trauma and music to my ears, because in essence this is what homeopathy is all about for me–bringing us closer to who we really are.  Lifting and unlocking.

So that you understand the process of recovery, the Nat Sulph 6c was probably not the ideal potency but was all that she had available at her local store and ordering from a homeopathic pharmacy was outside her ‘doable’ range at that time.  So, she had to give him the 6c 3-4 times a day.  When she eventually moved up to 30c, the dosing was also a little bit nuanced and more like every 1.5 days, which was tricky as you can imagine!

This is an example of how progress can be made even with a non-ideal potency but that it requires a little bit more effort.  In longer-term recoveries, my suggestion in such situations would be to use what you have available while ordering a more ideal potency from a homeopathic pharmacy.  Or learn how to do energetic dosing, which can be done anytime anywhere that you can get quiet time–this is its pro and its con.  Sometimes taking the pillule is much easier!

Oxygen Deprivation at Birth:  My daughter was born just 3 weeks after her friend, the one I mentioned when discussing CST above.  Her friend’s brain injury was far more significant than our daughter’s–our daughter’s main injury actually came from a severe overdose of a CNS-suppressant that she actually did not need [it was for seizures, which she was not having and the overdose was so significant that it nearly killed her].

Let me make my long stories short.  I am very well aware that the efforts my friend and I have made for our daughters has made a significant difference in their lives.  It is true that they are not “cured” but it is also true that they have far exceeded any expectations that conventional medicine had for them.  My friend’s daughter is almost 10 years old and still doing new things but was given a 3-year life expectancy.

When my daughter was in the hospital, I was told that she would require a permanent G-tube and never be able to eat via her mouth because she had no gag reflex while she was recovering from the overdose, but she left the hospital nursing, which is the most complicated way for a baby to eat.  When she was 10 months old, our PT told us that we should get a gigantic pediatric wheelchair that would totally tuck her in because we would need a “feeding system.”  She also told me to stop carrying her and stop walking with her [my daughter could walk holding our hands].  Well, we never have had a wheelchair and we never will [and that was our last appointment with that PT too].  We did  use strollers on occasion and now my daughter has a walker.

So on a macro level, you can see how homeopathy, nutrition, energy work, craniosacral work, conductive education, and a more hands-on expectant approach has made a significant impact on our children.  Here are some details on homeopathy specifically [someday we hope to write a book together detailing all of it for other parents who want more for their children than what conventional medicine offers]…

Once she left the hospital, my daughter never did take another pharmaceutical excepting a single dose of a reflux medication.  She was 1 y.o. when she started constitutional homeopathic treatment.    Her first homeopathic remedy was made from Ether.  She went from being a passive participant in life to being actively engaged and participating in play, etc.  When she was 3 y.o., she took a remedy made from the CNS suppressant with which she was overdosed.  She rolled-over by herself for the first time the next day, began sleeping through the night [vs. the waking every 5-20 minutes we had endured the previous 3 years], was relieved of chronic intractable constipation, was able to sit independently, and began walking [with help] sua sponte.  When she was 5 y.o., a homeopathic remedy got her crawling–being able to move herself was a significant change for her.  She also began sitting on her knees because that made sitting-crawling easier, but it had the negative side effect of making it easier for her to walk tip-toed and inward than flat- and straight-footed.  We addressed that with both constitutional and topical remedies, and our OT remarked that she usually sees that issue getting worse, not better!  The conventional treatment we were offered, by the way, involved Botox treatments and slicing the tendons then casting the foot/leg in a 90-degree angle.  Homeopathy also has helped her emotionally–to move past separation anxiety, for instance.  And it has helped in subtle ways, with her ability to use her body ever improving.

My friend used homeopathy for her daughter a little bit with the help of the craniosacral therapist in her daughter’s early years.  Mostly she used Conductive Education.  Her daughter was perhaps 7 or 8 years old when she mentioned to me that her daughter was chronically congested and tended to get sick come Fall.  Sometimes, Spirit just hands me a remedy on-the-spot, and that’s what happened then.  Baryta Carb popped into my head.  She started her daughter on Baryta Carb 30c, about one dose per month.  Here’s some of what she noticed from the remedy:  Significantly fewer spasms, ability to sleep longer and with about half the amount of sleep medication at night, more easily contented [able to stay upstairs by herself, for instance], more engagement at school, willingness to eat at school.  She also started a birth trauma resonance, which gave her daughter the ability to fall asleep quickly [rather than the typical hours it took] as well as significantly improved bowel movements and the ability to move her hands in new ways.

So ….

In my experience, homeopathic treatment of the individual can prevent, manage, relieve, and even progressively cure injuries to the brain.  In situations where few conventional options are available, it is especially wonderful to have choices.  Homeopathy can reduce our reliance on pharmaceuticals while improving our overall state because homeopathy treats the individual, and in and of itself that makes it worthwhile to me.  When you add to that the joy with which healing occurs, the improvements made that are otherwise considered impossible and implausible, or the gains made at a speed that astounds, as well as the unlocking of a person’s joy and personality, I surely hope that if you or someone you know suffers from a brain injury, you will consider homeopathy as one option for healing.

Stuff

Sorting out needs vs. wants?  Haves vs. have nots?  Trying to figure out when it is okay to spend money on something that you do not ‘need’ [i.e., food, clean water, basic clothing, shelter]?

This is the rule of thumb that was given to me by God and has been incredibly helpful to me:  Spend money on that which feeds your soul.

That is different for each person, so maintain it as your guiding principle when purchasing for yourself and for others.  When you give to charity, too.

Quirk or Problem?

What is a quirk and what is a treatable problem?

We don’t want to change who we are, but we also want to live our best lives.  So the line of demarkation comes when a ‘quirk’ impacts the person’s ability to participate in aspects of life that limit the person’s ability to live his or her best life–typically these are activities that the person [or animal] otherwise would enjoy but are unable to enjoy on account of the ‘quirk.’

It is an easy rule, making a gray area into black-and-white.  I am so grateful for those that I think I’ll create a category for them on this blog right now!

So let’s flesh it out a bit …

I learned it when my eldest was young and I was on a Yahoo! group for parents of highly sensitive children.  Being highly sensitive in and of itself is actually normal, the list leader explained.  When a child is exhibiting behavior that hinders the child’s ability to participate in activities that the child otherwise would enjoy, you are looking at a treatable problem.

So, a sensitive child might want tagless t-shirts but would be able to find t-shirts that worked for him.  Someone with a sensory processing disorder might have difficulty finding any shirt that felt comfortable.  In the words of the SPD Foundation, “While most of us have occasional difficulties processing sensory information, for children and adults with SPD, these difficulties are chronic, and they disrupt everyday life.”

Similarly, someone who is anxious about starting a new job but able to figure out a way to do it anyway would be considered normal.  It would be considered a problem for someone who repeatedly experiences anxiety, especially if it is anxiety that prevents the person from performing tasks or participating in activities that would benefit the person.

By the way, these also exemplify the difference between an acute problem and a chronic problem with respect to homeopathic care:  Generally speaking, the acute problem [first instance in the examples above] is considered the kind of problem that can be treated through self- or home-care.  That is, you can figure out a remedy that would help you [such as Gelsemium, for anticipatory anxiety or Rescue Remedy for general stress in the second example] and treat yourself.  For a chronic issue, you’d be looking at professional help from a  homeopath and/or licensed medical practitioner.  In homeopathy, we would call it “constitutional” care.

As a parent and even as an individual, it helps me delineate what behaviors [since physical issues are usually obvious, even though they follow essentially the same rule!] should be addressed  and which ones are just part of who we are.

Love ’em or Leave ’em?

The other aspect of this issue is the torment of wanting to love a person [including oneself] for who s/he is while finding certain behaviors to be highly problematic.  In homeopathy, we meet people where they are, without judgment, with the goal of helping a person live as true to who s/he is as possible.

A homeopath wouldn’t treat a baby that cries when it is super hungry, for instance.  That baby just needs to be fed!  There isn’t a homeopathic remedy that would ‘fix’ that, because it is not only natural but beneficial behavior.  However, homeopathy can help babies that cry for hours at a time even when their obvious needs are met [needs being things like being held, being fed, being clean, appropriately dressed for the weather].

Homeopathy also will not change a person at their core.  Homeopathy is not a modality offering an externally imposed suppression of symptoms.  One way I describe homeopathic treatment is as an unburdening.  Homeopathy helps to relieve us of that which prevents us from living our best lives, whether those issues are physical, emotional, or even deeper than that.

This rule helps us determine when you simply have to figure out a way to work with the issue[s] versus issues that require or would benefit from homeopathic [or other] treatment.

Sensitive People

Being sensitive, like most traits, is both a forte and a challenge.  For most of my life, I was aware only of the downside:  Constantly being accused of overreacting!  But take heart if you are sensitive, there is an up side — it is sensitivity that makes it easier for us to attune to other energies, higher energies.  Angels, loved ones who have crossed over, even energies in a room, people we love who are far away from us.  Intuition, healing capabilities.  All easier for those who are sensitive.

So, how do you enjoy and enhance the benefits of being sensitive while also managing the challenges?  Here’s what I do, like to do, or think I should do [and if you have sensitive kids, this is especially important to do for them and teach them to do for themselves]:

Ground and Protect:  Probably the number one thing we can do as and for sensitive people is to ground and protect.  When you are visualizing God’s protective light, visualize it as thick and impenetrable.  When you visualize the shield, send it as far out as you can–I send it beyond Earth’s atmosphere–and make it super strong.

If you have sensitive children in your family, make sure you do this for your entire family, morning and night.  Your sensitive kids easily pick up on your feelings, so making sure that your feelings are as yours as possible and as clear as possible is incredibly helpful.  I’ve seen older kids wean and begin sleeping by themselves just from the mom grounding and protecting herself!

You might also consider a variety of grounding essential oils.  Clary sage, lavender, frankincense, sandalwood, vetiver are a few … I use sandalwood, roman chamomile, and vetiver in the bath for a serious destressing.  One of my sensitive kids knows to ask for a hot bath with 2 cups of epsom salts and that essential oil combo when he comes home feeling sick and he knows that it is from stress [experienced to him as distress].  The other great thing about it is that it is gender-neutral in its fragrance!  A drop of lavender on the crown of the head does wonders to enhance calm sleep.  [Many homeopaths believe that essential oils interfere with the action of homeopathic remedies.  I personally have not experienced that, but it is something of which you should be aware if you are undergoing constitutional homeopathic treatment.]

I’m a huge fan of stones, and there are several that are very good for grounding.  Black onyx [grounding] is a favorite, and it is relatively inexpensive, as is clear crystal quartz [clears negative energies].   [I linked there to Gemisphere, which has high quality gems strung on strong silk thread that is knotted between the spheres.  They have sales every week–20% off a particular stone–and recently started having big sales like 40% off everything in-stock.  So if it is out of your reach, you can wait for a sale.  However, I also have found good gemstones on other sites, like Etsy.  It is harder to find them strung on silk, and you should make sure that you clear them first.  However, if you make your own jewelry, Etsy can be a source for the stones.  I also like Starlight for gemstones, though they offer pendants and bracelets more than strands.]

When my daughter was young, she went through major separation anxiety in the car.  My husband had bought the black onyx from Gemisphere, and one day I was inspired to put it over the front seat headrest so that it dangled in front of my daughter in the back seat.  It was the first time she sat contentedly in the back seat while I was finally able to feel like a grown-up and get a tiny bit of adult time with my husband, moving to the front seat!  Even from a few feet away, it was grounding enough to help her.

There are other possibilities, too, like Mother of Pearl and amber, both of which I’ve seen sold in child-sized knotted necklaces.

Be Aware of Your Feelings:  If you have sensitive people living with you, it is really important to stay clear on your feelings.  Stuffing your feelings eventually results in an unpleasant release:  Either your children will push you until you let them out [usually onto the children, even though that’s not where they belong!], your body will end up manifesting the emotion as a symptom to get your attention, or you will get triggered by something small and release the full build-up of emotions [and probably inappropriately].

If you are looking at homeopathy in a family of sensitive people, I think it really helps to treat everyone in the family–pets included.  Sensitive people and sensitive pets often absorb on behalf of others in the family [hence the importance of shielding!].  This will help you manage your own stress so that your children [or other family members] don’t have to help you do so.  This can reduce physical and emotional symptoms–clinginess, acting out, stomach symptoms, nervous tics …

Most of the time, it comes down to this:  Don’t say “yes” when you really want to say “no”!

Clear Your House:  It is incredibly helpful to keep the energy [or energies] in your house cleared.  I try to clear and protect the bedrooms before sleep and the main living area in the morning.  You can use essential oils, herbal sprays, incense.  Burn palo santo wood, resins, dried herbs [from your garden!], sage [smudge] or candles.  Keep a couple of windows open just a smidge.

I would be so grateful to hear what works for you!

Enterovirus 68 and Ebola

Just a quick post with a couple of suggestions for remedies again:

For Enterovirus 68, if your child has asthma or respiratory issues and you want to be well-prepared incase it gets more serious.  Consider Blatta Orientalis in 6c and perhaps some higher potencies as well.  This remedy should be given in water and only as needed.  [If you read the preceding link, you’ll get the surprising story of how this was discovered to be a remedy for asthma!]  It is indicated for asthma, bronchitis, and respiratory problems due to great mucous; there’s also a tendency to aggravate in damp weather.  [This is the remedy that I intuit as the most likely most beneficial remedy for EV-68 in its most troublesome form, so I did order extra of this recently if you are a client of mine and would like me to send you a dose.]

In EV-68’s milder form, the typical flu remedies would be under consideration.  For aches down to the bones or serious aches with malaise, consider Eupatorium Perfoliatum in potencies unto 1M.

For Ebola, the remedy circulating in the homeopathy world is Crotalus Horridus.  A study was done some time ago that came up with Crotalus Horridus, though I haven’t read any case studies regarding Ebola.  If I were buying for my family, I’d buy 6c and perhaps use it prophylactically in water if I knew we’d been exposed, and I’d by 1M if I’d missed the chance to prevent it.

I hope this is of help!

That stuff that’s going around …

There’s a bug headed around the Northwest that can bring a really painful sore throat followed by congestion of varying degrees.  Here are the remedies I’ve seen helpful for that:

If you get the awful sore throat, it’s Lachesis in 30c or 200c.

If congestion with a sensation of blocked ears follows, Kali Iodatum 30c should help.

If you end up with chest or back-of-neck pain during congestion instead, Arsenicum Iodatum 200c worked wonders.

The other thing that is going around is the kind of thing we often find at this time of year, when days can get warm in the sun but evenings are cool, as is the shade or breeze.  So be careful to carry an extra layer with you!  And if you do catch a little something after catching a chill or exposure to cold, dry wind, try some Aconite 30c.  If you then go on to get mucousy, Hepar Sulph can help.

With the intense fears circulating due to current events, Aconite also can be helpful.  If you get locked in a state of fright or shock, Aconite can help make you functional again.  If you don’t take Aconite then and then go on to sprout a sore throat or cold, think of Aconite then!
