The Sooner The Better

The sooner you get to an issue, the better.  Pretty much always, and with every modality.  For acute issues and issues that have become chronic.

This is why I am a huge proponent of treating children [yes, even babies] who are having a tough time.  And one reason I carry remedies with me at all times.

Many issues result from some sort of trauma.  The sooner you remove that traumatic layer from your body and psyche, the better!  You will still remember it and be informed by it, but it will no longer have a hold on your body or your emotions.

We can even take a simple example like a baby who enters the world with a physical issue.  The resulting accommodations–logistical, emotional, in parenting–can change the parent-child dynamic, the child’s expectations of the world, etc.  The longer they persist, the more likely they are to be internalized by the child, etc.

It is exactly like habit formation—it is easier to prevent a bad habit than it is to break one.

And it’s a bit like making a snowman out of a snowball.

Prevent Trauma from Taking Hold

I like to keep Rescue Remedy [a Bach Flower Essence] and homeopathic Aconite [for fright, shock, trauma] with me.  I find Rescue Remedy and EFT helpful for milder situations, and Aconite 200c tends to be what I use if I’m so upset that I’m shaking or my child is so upset s/he cannot catch a breath to speak.  It resolves the fright so that we can deal with the situation at hand calmly, which has lovely practical implications!  It also heals the fear immediately so that it doesn’t have a chance to get a foothold.

I carry a single dose of Arnica 200 with me everywhere!
I carry a single dose of Arnica 200 with me everywhere!

The cause of the emotion, and the emotional state itself, are clear in that moment and the moments that follow.  That makes them exceedingly easy to treat right then.  But if you let “time heal all wounds,” without addressing the actual emotional injuries as well as any physical injuries, the physical injuries might heal while the emotional ones simply fester.  You might be able to look back and say, “It all started after that incident.”  And you might be able to recall the emotions that arose then.  But often we simply don’t recall all of those details or are simply in the habit of ignoring our emotions.

Prevent Sickness or Ailments from Taking Hold

There are numerous proponents of leaving fevers/colds/coughs/flu’s to do their thing, but if you simply do not have the wherewithal to do that, the earlier you treat them, the better your results are likely to be.  If you’re really in-touch with your body, you’ll know when you’re just a bit too fatigued or you have a vaguely sore throat, and you can boost your immune system with vitamin C and the like.  Homeopathically, you can take something like Ferrum Phosphoricum 6x or 6c or 30c when you are feeling those early symptoms.  If it comes on suddenly and with vigor, you could take a small dose [5-10 granules] of homeopathic Oscillococcinum to try to stop it in its tracks.

For physical ailments, I carry Arnica 200c with me at all times–I even put it in a waterproof iPhone case for the beach and pool!  It doesn’t cover everything, but it is the one thing most likely to help in most situations where you are in an uh-oh state!  In fact, recently on a family trip to the beach, my husband was stung by something when a wave rushed in while working on a sandcastle.  He took the stinger out immediately, and I gave him a dose of Arnica 200.  At that point, we had no idea what it was, only that it wasn’t good.  It helped tremendously, even though Arnica is not the most oft-described remedy for assisting with stings, bites, or the like.

Prevent a Chronic Issue from Worsening

For chronic issues, the sooner you address them, the better, in my opinion and my experience.  Chances are that you will need the help of a healer with that, so start asking around for some referrals!

How Do I Get Better Sleep Naturally?

One of the first benefits people notice from a constitutional homeopathic remedy is improved sleep–even if that was not the reason for seeking treatment!

Here are a couple of other ways to improve sleep aside from homeopathy:

The Brazilian Toe Massage.  It takes about 15 minutes, brings all the energy down through the meridians, and really helps calm the mind and body.  It’s useful day or night, but I definitely make it part of my kids’ nighttime routine.  And if I catch myself thinking in the middle of the night after being woken by an outside source, I use this technique to calm my mind and bring sleep back sooner.

So … you can do it physically or energetically.  To do it energetically, visualize it–imagine the receiver’s toes, hold your fingers as though you are actually doing the treatment for the person, and go through each of the steps as though your fingers really were on the person’s toes.  I don’t know if it works on animals!

[I learned this technique from Sandy Wand, a Donna Eden Energy Medicine Practitioner–well, expert, really.]

Lavender essential oil.  Lavender is well-known for its soothing [and cleansing] effect.  Take advantage of it by putting a drop on the crown of your head before heading to bed.  [This tip thanks to Cynthia Slon.]  And Mountain Rose Herbs has a nice article explaining the different types of lavender essential oil they offer.

21 Days of Fantastic: Day 15, Know Thyself

i realize that I am highly analytical and not everyone who shares this planet with me shares that … er … attribute.  There are a few benefits to being so analytical, however, and one of them is being able to help yourself.

As you know already, I believe that the sooner you catch something, the better.  That’s true if you’re trying to treat an illness or if you are trying to modify your behavior.  It’s true if you have having a strong emotional response, and it’s true if your water heater is failing.

if you happen to know of yourself that you don’t really know your triggers, that you blow things off or stuff them for too long, take a dip in the pool of … let’s call it awareness.

Become more aware, first.

Then try dealing with it sooner rather than later–for emotions, you can use EFT, homeopathy, Bach flower essences, crystals, psychotherapy, or whatever resonates for you; for bodily injury you can use conventional medicine, homeopathy, cranial osteopathy / craniosacral therapy, etc.  For your house and car, most help is standard!

Notice the reward of simply addressing something as soon as you notice it is happening.  If you notice that every sickness starts with a little something in your throat, you can boost your immune system at that earliest sign, thereby increasing your chances with the virus.

There are numerous rewards for catching something early, and the rewards for figuring out the predecessor to your repeat ailments is even better.

If you notice that every time you yell at your kids, it was preceded by a “yes” that should have been a “no,” hold your boundaries firmer and avoid the disconnect that happens when we yell.  If you notice that you are cranky, try to figure out why so that the relationships with those around you don’t suffer on account of your singular frustration.

We were even highly rewarded by having an inspection done on our house 12 years after we bought it, just because I suspected there were problems brewing we didn’t know about and wanted to fix early.  The inspector found several problems that should have been caught when we bought the house, including some pretty big stuff.  We surely were glad to get all of those things fixed before they became a glaring problem!

Ya, we’re busy, yes the kids need to get here and there and we do too.  But if you can take a moment to initiate a practice of awareness, it’ll pay for itself many times over with workdays salvaged, vacations enjoyed, cars running when you need them, and let’s not forget plenty of hot water when you need a bath to relax!

1 Step to Prevent the Flu, Stop It, or Resolve It

I was pregnant with my third child when the first round of H1N1 hit the U.S. in the Spring of 2009. I laid in bed for 5 days [that is unheard of for me!] with a fever. I had all of the symptoms and I cannot say it was fun! I basically drank 7-up [also a big No for me] to stay alive. Finally, at Day 5, I tried some homeopathic remedies from my Helios kit–to no avail. Then, on Day 6, I decided to try Anas Barbariae.

Voila! It was like the clouds parted! I still recall leaving the house for the first time to watch my son’s horseback riding lesson and being in complete awe of how good it felt to not be so sick! I put a dose of it into an 8-ounce water bottle and sipped it for several days. A few sips [each sip is a dose] on the first day, then 2 sips, then 1 sip daily, until I was free of the flu symptoms.

Since then, I have kept that remedy in my purse, backpack, car, teenager’s room, bathrooms, jacket pockets.  It’s everywhere because, you’ve heard me say this before … the sooner we get started on healing, the easier / better / faster it will be.

Some people even use Anas Barbariae preventively during flu season, taking it on a regular basis as a little immune refresher course.

It’s so versatile, I decided to include the remedy in my G4 Kit.  It’s the one marked Flu.

When do I take it?

My general preference is that it is taken only as needed, but ideally it is taken ASAP after exposure or after onset of symptoms. Onset of symptoms means that first sore or scratchy throat not relieved by water, that feeling that you’re more tired than you should be, congestion that seemed to come out of nowhere.

The other time to use it is after exposure to illness–i.e., when you’ve been around someone who is sick. You sat next to someone who was sick on an airplane or train. You are at a competition or conference with people who are sick. Someone in your abode falls ill. Sometimes, a single dose will do it. But, if it is important that a person stay well, I might recommend a dose for each day the person is exposed to a contagion.

How do I take it?

From the G4 Kit, each capful is a dose–just tip the remedy into the cap then from the cap in to your mouth to dissolve there. One dose usually is sufficient if you use it preventively or at the very earliest sign of illness.

However, if you do take ill, I suggest the following method:

  • Take one dose as above–a single capful dissolved in the mouth. Typically, we notice improvement within 10-30 minutes in an acute ailment.
  • If that dose helped, you can [can, not must–see below] switch to water dosing*: Pour a capful of remedy in to 4 oz. [half a cup] of drinking water. Ideally, you will have a straw or spout on the vessel of water. When the remedy dissolves in the water, give it a swirl or stir. You now have what I call remedy water.
  • Each sip of the remedy water is a dose of remedy. Take a dose as needed. Typically, you will want a dose every 4-6 hours, maximum. Keep it bedside incase you need it at night.
  • Remember the concept of minimum dose and only take as many doses as you need to maintain forward progress. That means that as you get better, you will need fewer and fewer doses.
  • When you are well and/or done with your remedy water, make sure that you either dispose of the vessel that held the remedy water or wash it with very hot water.

Why use water dosing? Can’t I just take the pills?

*Yes, you absolutely can continue taking the pills for each dose. Just keep on taking one capful per dose, as needed:
Typically, you will want a dose every 4-6 hours, maximum. Keep it bedside incase you need it at night. Remember the concept of minimum dose and only take as many doses as you need to maintain forward progress. That means that as you get better, you will need fewer and fewer doses.

Why do I suggest water dosing, then? Primarily because it takes one dose and makes it in to many doses. That saves the other doses in your vial for another occasion or other members of your household. If that is not an issue for you, then dry dosing [taking the pills] can be much easier and more convenient.

How do I get it?

It’s in your G4 Kit! If you don’t have one, you can become a client here.

Prevent a Concussion in Less than a Minute

Brains. We need them. Ideally in top form.

So it is no surprise that athletes, parents of athletes, and the general public is disconcerted by the frequency of concussions. In fact, it is a top reason for sports-related E.R. visits. [1]

And what can homeopathy do about it?!

Homeopathy is excellent at reducing inflammation and swelling.* It also has the advantage of being extremely portable so you can take it ASAP after the offending injury. In fact, that’s a key reason my G4 Kit is so small. With a small kit, we can take it most anywhere, so we have access to the remedies we need when we need them. The sooner we get started on our healing, the better. So take a dose while en route to the E.R.

Head Injuries was born of the desire to prevent head injuries from resulting in concussions.

The G4 Kit contains two remedies for emergency situations–Major Injuries and Head Injuries. For a long time, I just used Major Injuries for serious head injuries, and First Aid / First Aid Oil for bumps to the head [and you still can–see below]. But a PRO client of mine had a friend who suffered a concussion. Seeing the fallout for his friend, my client asked for a remedy for concussion to have on-hand. Of course I gave it to him. But I decided then and there that I’d rather all my clients have a specific Head Injuries remedy to prevent the injury from developing into a concussion!

My Head Injuries remedy is crafted to be highly effective and fast:

  • It’s with you wherever you are. The sooner you get started with healing, the better.
  • Head Injuries uses high potencies, so they are highly effective in emergency situations. Typically one dose is all that is needed.
  • Homeopathy typically begins producing improvement for injuries within 10 -15 minutes.*
  • Head Injuries uses a combination of two remedies to address swelling and blunt force injuries.
  • The little pillules are easy to administer to someone in an awkward position–just tuck them in a cheek or under a tongue. They dissolve quickly and get to work immediately–even before they’re fully dissolved.

Thus far, the clients who have needed to use Head Injuries report success–i.e., progressive disappearance of pain, swelling, and other symptoms. And avoidance of the E.R.

Even if we do end up in the E.R., by reducing the inflammation immediately, outcomes are improved.*

Why do I care so much?

Besides the obvious–I care because my life’s work is true health, and it’s my work to keep athletes in top form…

This one–protecting the brain–does hit close to home. My own daughter suffered a brain injury in the NICU as the result of a medical mistake. Recovering her has been a very long and arduous–albeit rewarding–path. If my experience can translate into brain injury prevention for you, I thank God for that opportunity. I’ll never be able to go back in time to prevent her brain injury, but I can help you prevent one now. I cannot guarantee it, but there’s no harm in trying.**

What happens after I take it?

Here’s one person’s experience using Head Injuries:

I had an out of body experience for only a short period of time probably seconds. Although, when I first fell off, I had been sitting on the table backwards so I hit the back of my head. At first, it felt like a throbbing headache except it was radiating across my head. It went deep into my head and stayed like that for a little bit. Then, eventually I got the Head Injuries and First Aid Oil; it reduced to where it just felt like a large bruise.

–9-year-old, describing his experience with Head Injuries after falling backwards off a coffee table

Other clients report that the pain and swelling [if there is any] subsides within 5-15 minutes from a single dose. Those who have begun driving to the E.R. found that the upon arrival, mentals were great while pain and swelling was completely gone, thereby negating the need for further intervention.

Clients also report something beautiful: Because the pain disappeared so quickly, so easily, and without a whole lot of hoopla, the athlete suffered no residual fear of the activity that gave rise to the injury in the first place. This is key for anyone, really: Who needs to be blocked from daily living by fear?

And this is the kind of outcome that feeds the souls of everyone involved: We have health, progress, and empowerment as the result of one dose of a remedy.

What’s in it?

It contains homeopathic Ledum in high potency. Ledum is highly regarded in homeopathy for its benefit to a person who has suffered an injury to the head. [Incidentally, it also is beneficial for black eyes for the same reason.] Head Injuries also contains Arnica in high potency, which is great at reducing swelling, bruising.

Thus far, the reports I have had from clients are all positive that they are able to avert a concussion by using the Head Injuries remedy. One client also used the First Aid Oil from the G4 Kit on the cheeks of the person with the injury to give an extra assist in bringing down inflammation. The added advantage of this choice is that my First Aid remedies include Hypericum, which is beneficial for nerve damage. If you suspect nerve damage, consider either adding the First Aid remedy or the First Aid Oil.

My Major Injuries remedy simply contains Arnica. This is a high potency Arnica that is used, for example, by plastic surgeons to reduce swelling, bruising, etc. that result from considerable injuries to the body. It’s well regarded in homeopathy for its ability to bring down swelling and is often used in hospital settings around the world as a standard for brain injuries. If you are out of Head Injuries or for some reason only have Major Injuries with you, it’s definitely worth taking for any significant injury for that very reason–reduce the swelling and inflammation, and buy yourself some time to get to the E.R.

Who needs it?

Head Injuries is for a significant head injury.

This is an injury where the E.R. crosses your mind, at the very least. Usually, you will see that the injury caused at least a momentary droop in consciousness. You might even call 9-1-1 or begin your journey to the E.R. and dose en route if you can.

How do I take it?

Just pour a few pellets into your mouth.

  • If you are collected enough, you can pour them from the vial into the cap and then into the person’s mouth. Try to get them under the tongue or in the cheek to dissolve before they are swallowed.
  • If you are shaking, frazzled, in gloves, or in any other way unable to pour a capful, just shake a few pellets into the mouth of the person with the head injury.

Typically, only a single dose is needed. If you feel further doses are needed, you definitely should be under the care of a physician and a professional homeopath.

How do I get it?

It comes in the G4 Kit! If you don’t already have one and would like one, become a client!

*These statements not evaluated by the FDA. They are based on experience, common sense, and homeopathic principles.
**Homeopathy has no known side-effects or contraindications.

Stiff Chill = Stiff Back?

I discovered this remedy a couple of years ago when my husband’s back froze.  To him, it just plain hurt.  When I asked for Heavenly Help with a remedy, they showed me a stone that was dark on the outside, red in the middle.  Luckily, I recalled that stone from a book, Twelve Jewels:  Gems in Homeopathy by Peter Tuminello [from which all images in this post are taken], and I already had the remedy on-hand:  Rhodonite 200.

I prefer to confirm psychic advice, so I opened the book and read through the relevant section.  It’s an interesting stone, Rhodonite.  In its natural state, it is covered in black manganese oxide, and this gives-off warmth:

RhodoniteWarmth

It also is indicated for tension in the back:

RhodoniteTenseBack

Since that day, Rhodonite has been my go-to for back problems that come about after working outside in the chill, and it works wonders.  Of course, the sooner you use it, the better.  But it will work even if you’ve been struggling for some time–as long as the symptoms fit.

I usually put some in water, with each sip being a dose.

Here’s to an easier Winter for you and your back!

The Quick Six: Bites and Stings

The final bit of your Quick Six ensemble would be something to address bites and stings, which in fact is what brought my family to homeopathy in the first place.

The Remedies:

The most frequently recommended remedies for bites and stings are as follows:

Arnica – especially if there is bruising
Apis – especially for bee stings
Hypericum – especially when there is nerve pain
Ledum – for puncture wounds including bites and stings

Once again, I’d suggest remedies in the 6c – 200c range.  You can order a combination from some pharmacies, make a combination yourself [see below], or pick the one you feel you’re most likely to need and use that.  If you are going to do the latter, consider that both Arnica and Hypericum would be in your Cuts & Bumps / First Aid vial or spray.

Because I carry only Arnica [200c or 1M] on occasions when I can’t carry a lot, I had only that with me when my husband was stung on his palm by something mysterious in the ocean.  It helped for a few hours, but after washing the dishes that evening, he started experiencing pain shooting up his arm.  I recalled that pain moving up the nerve toward the heart is dangerous, so I urged him to go to the Emergency Room.  He was reluctant, so I pulled out some Hypericum 1M and dissolved it in a small glass of water for him.  After the first dose, the pain withdrew and localized again.  He took another dose during the night, and again another dose in the morning, and that was that.  Whew!

How to make a combination yourself:

Put the pillules that you want to include between two spoons and crush them.  Then stir them up, and voila, you’ve made a combination.

Use it topically:

Don’t forget that you can use this topically too.  Here’s a reminder on how to make a topical out of remedy pillules.  In fact, it was an inspired topical application of Arnica 200c to a massive mosquito bite reaction that taught me the wonders of topical homeopathics in potency.

Non-homeopathic options:

Plumeria:  If you are someplace where Plumeria grow, you can break-off a Plumeria leaf and apply the milk to the site as quickly as possible.  This works quickly and effectively, much to my surprise and relief!

Helichrysum Essential Oil:  I recently was stung by a spider [this kind].  It stung me quickly while running away, luckily, but it was hurting by nightfall.  I decided to apply some of my face oil [hazelnut oil with helichrysum in it] to it, and I was surprised that the spreading redness and pain had diminished by morning.  One more application in the morning, and voila, it was no longer uncomfortable.   I am pretty sure that I never applied a homeopathic, only the face oil.

Meanwhile, my daughter had 3 mosquito bites [she reacts big time!], one of which was not responding to our treatments [why, we don’t know!], so I decided to go back to my original … Arnica spray, then had the idea to add the face oil on top of it.  Voila, the swelling went down and the itchiness subsided.  I think I applied again that night and maybe again the next day before it was fully resolved.

Tried it again [Arnica spray + Helichrysum in hazelnut oil] on my husband, who caught it immediately after being stung and the results were complete relief immediately.

In looking into it, only Helichrysum [and Arnica, of course] are known to be helpful with bites and stings.

Now I keep some of my face oil in a tiny amber roller bottle in my purse.  I use it for a variety of skin complaints from scratches to stings.

To make a batch for my face oil dispenser, I put one dropperful of the Helichrysum [from a 1/2 oz. bottle] in 1 oz. of hazelnut oil [links above to Mountain Rose Herbs, where I purchase them].  If you buy the tiny roller bottles, I fill them all up and have them on-hand to give away.  People love ’em!

PREVENTION!

Homeopathics:  And finally, preventing mosquito bites.  Mozi-Q has come up with a homeopathic formula that prevents a whole host of bites [lice, ticks, mosquitoes …].  These are low-potency homeopathic combination tablets that you take half an hour before potential exposure and whose effects are expected to last a few hours.  The cool thing about the internal is that you have complete coverage [you can’t miss a spot] that remains through sweat, swim, sunscreen, etc.

Staphysagria is the remedy that prevents mosquito bites [Staphysagria is made from delphinium, and mosquitoes don’t like delphinium].  We have used Staphysagria 6x internally with success, and we also have used it topically for prevention [successfully, though they will find the spots that you miss if you’re in a mosquito rich area].

Other:  I have read and been told that liver tonics / bitters and vitamin B’s [like in nutritional yeast] are good mosquito preventatives.  Constipation also equals a sluggish liver, apparently, so regularity is important!

The Quick Six: Cuts and Bumps [My First Aid Combo]

This remedy is included in the G4 Kit, now available in the shop! Click to learn more.

I probably use this more than any other homeopathic, which is why it leads off the Quick Six.

It contains remedies to abate swelling, bruising, bleeding, nerve damage, and infection.  It works astoundingly well as a topical, so I keep it in a spray bottle in my purse and around the house.

We had been using it for a while, actually, when my youngest tripped and hit his chin on the corner of an art table.  I held him and applied the First Aid spray frequently with a gauze pad.  He fell asleep, and by the end of his nap, his chin looked good.  Phew. But that night, when brushing his teeth, I noticed that his gum was injured under the chin wound.  The next day, it looked infected and I took him to the doctor.  The recommended herbs etc. did not help, so that night in a moment of hope, desperation, and likely Divine inspiration, I grabbed the First Aid spray, pulled his lip out for a moment, then sprayed the site.  Within 10 minutes, the infection was completely healed.  Thank you, homeopathy!

Remedies:

Arnica–to reduce swelling, bleeding, bruising, and other soft tissue trauma
Calendula–to fight infection
Hypericum–to preserve and repair nerves from damage [and remember, the fingertips, toes, and tailbone are very high in nerves!]

Uses:

I use this for just about anything but primarily cuts and bumps…It does well for almost every injury affecting the skin but isn’t optimal for burns or bites [it helps burns and bumps but doesn’t fully resolve the issue]. Honestly, I rarely use the oral version anymore–I mostly use the spray!  Still, if I had only one vial of remedy with me, it would be this combination.  Or maybe Major Injuries for major emergencies.  Tough call.  [By the way, First Aid Oil is in the G4 Kit too.  It’s crazy handy!]

As I did in the situation with my son’s gum, if an area is wet [such as the mouth typically is], I try to dry it a bit first, thereby making it more receptive to the spray–like I recommend for the Dental treatment spray.  If you have to choose between drying it and getting the remedy onto the wounded area, I would opt for the latter–the sooner you treat it, the better!

If we had a true emergency, of course, we would head to the hospital foremost, and if we had the remedy with us, we would apply it or take it orally en route.FirstAidSpray

Spray Preparation:

1-3 doses per 2 oz. of clean tap water [the chemicals in the tap water actually help preserve the remedy water].  Watch the water, then, to make sure it doesn’t get gunky, because there is no alcohol or glycerin etc. in the spray preparation to preserve it.  I’ve typically gone 6-12 months with it being just fine, though one bottle of the First Aid remedy spray rarely lasts that long.

When the Going Gets Tough, Say “Thank You!”

It was hard to wrap my mind around this nugget of wisdom when I first came across it.  Even though Maya Angelou said it to Oprah, more or less.

Here’s how it came to make sense to me:

We often look back at a difficult experience and are capable of seeing the good that might have come from the experience.  The lemonade part, right?

From a logical standpoint, the sooner we welcome an experience as a gift, we start feeling like this is all part of a plan and therefore under control–the mindset that everything is going to work out alright in the end.  This calms us down.   This opens us up to clarity.  We can think more clearly, feel more clearly.  It’s like the situation already has been resolved.*

From a spiritual standpoint, gratitude puts us very deeply into the space that you already have what you so badly want.  It’s a key aspect to attracting what you want to manifest in your life.

It is easier to employ this technique for the more typical trials and tribulations — like when someone has just shouted something rude out their car window in the parking lot.  Or even for the difficulties more typical of the human experience — like the angst of trying to figure out your calling in life.  I admit that I even went a bit in this direction when my daughter was born without the gift of breath, trusting that it was all part of The Plan.

But if you can even use it in just the smallest ways–when you have a spat, when your wifi doesn’t connect, when you get stuck in traffic–your life will feel better and lighter.

*Speaking of which, when my youngest was young, I often would pray for an immediate smooth and easy resolution to the situation at hand.  Just such a resolution quickly would reveal itself.  Thank you, thank you, thank you!

What’s in Your Wallet? Homeopathic First Aid for Your Wallet

wallet remediesIf everyone in the world knew how to use and had access to these few remedies, our world would be an easier place!

If you aren’t already familiar with how to dose using homeopathy, please read the As Needed post, which explains how to implement the homeopathic Minimum Dose.

If you carry just a single dose of remedy in your wallet, you can make one dose into many doses simply by dissolving it in a water bottle.  Ideally, you will use purified water and a bottle with a sports spout to minimize the addition of backwash.  Each teaspoon or little squirt or sip you take is a dose of the remedy.  If you have a topical injury [e.g., burn, sprain, bruise], you also can apply some of that remedy water to your injury.  Works like a charm, usually within 10 minutes — you might not even need to take the oral dose!

Onto the remedies…

Trauma–emotional and physical

These are the most crucial.  If I only carried one, I’d carry Arnica.  Two, Arnica and Aconite.

Shock, fright.  Something happens, you are shaken and cannot truly calm down.  Aconite.  Also called Aconitum Napellus.  One dose of 200c typically is sufficient, especially if you take it soon after the event.  If you only have 30c, you may need 2-3 doses.

Swelling, bruises.  You fall, you are in an accident, and you sustain an injury.  Arnica.  Also called Arnica Montana.  If it just hurts, take nothing or a dose of 30c.  If you are thinking, “This could be pretty bad,” take a dose of 200c.  Do not take another dose unless the previous dose gave you improvement which subsequently waned.  And certainly seek medical care when necessary!  If your injury was to a nerve-rich area, such as fingers, toes, or tailbone, turn to Hypericum where you normally would turn to Arnica.

Owies–emotional and physical

If you have space for a few more remedies, consider these, especially if you are prone or have kids who are prone …

Sprains and Strains.  If you or your kids are active in sports, it would be worthwhile to either just take Arnica 200 with you [or send it with them] or to make a little combination of Arnica, Rhus Tox, and Ruta in 200c potencies for injuries with the uh-oh factor.  Arnica for swelling and muscle injury, Rhus Tox for ligament/tendon injury, and Ruta for connective tissue/tendons.

Stings, bites.  Apis for red, hot, swollen stings [like bee stings] and Ledum for hard puncture wounds [like mosquito stings and even injuries at the site of injections].

Cuts.  Calendula supports healing and is known to fight infection.  Staphysagria is helpful for healing incisions or other clean cuts similar to incisions.

Burns.  My favorite is Cantharis, which always has worked if I take it immediately after the burn.  I also really like Hawaiian Moon Aloe for small kitchen burns and sunburns.

Sorrow.  Ignatia for ailments from grief [when you are so sad, you just cannot get a grip].

Ruh-roh–I think I’m gonna …

Food poisoning.  Arsenicum Album is the most common remedy for food poisoning from bad meat.  If you are terribly sick, you probably want to use a 200c, as needed.

Overdoing it.  Too much rich food, too much drink, even too much work.  Nux Vomica!  Way too much coffee or tea leave you feeling sick?  Chamomilla does the trick [you’ll probably need the 200c if you’re that sick]!

Carry ’em

Key Fob Kit .  Remedia makes a great little key fob that holds 3 vials of remedy.  Choose from their selection [Arnica 200, Ledum 200, and Nux Vomica 200] or get empty vials and fill them with your choice of remedies.

Little Envelopes.  I like to use what are called “coin envelopes” to slip 1-3 doses of remedy into a small space, like a pocket, wallet, waterproof iPhone case [mine pictured here], etc.

Here's a quick reference card you can print out and keep handy in your wallet or bag.
