Getting Grounded for Good
For most of us, grounding is beneficial because it keeps us calm when we could get overwhelmed.
It is a means of centering oneself, making sure we do not get caught-up too much in our heads, etc. It is a reminder that we are in physical bodies on Earth. We even need to be grounded in order to work effectively with Spirit.
I use both simple “mental” exercises and gemstones to ground myself quickly and easily.
Of the Earth
I’ve long been drawn to stones, and healing gemstones are of such gentle energy that they seem to complement homeopathy quite well. Just make sure you clear your gemstones of negative energy regularly. To cleanse my crystals and stones, I put the gemstones I’ve used each day in a bowl of salt overnight, then change out the salt every couple of weeks. I also do this with newly purchased crystals, just incase.
My favorite gemstones for grounding and protection are pyrite, black onyx, and amber [technically, amber is fossilized tree resin, not a gemstone]. I also really like Healer’s Gold a lot, and hematite is a common favorite. [A bowl of tumbled hematite even can be used to clear other gemstones!]
It is easiest to wear these as jewelry–necklaces, bracelets, etc. In certain circumstances, I also use individual gemstone pieces for grounding by tucking them into a pocket or waistband to bring the energy further out of my head [I can be in my head a lot]. I mentioned this to a gemstone expert once, and she said that actually black onyx is best as a belt [I haven’t found any onyx belts, but I bet you could make one].
Watch Your Step
A quick and easy way to remain grounded is to pay attention to your footsteps. I had an energy therapist at one point who said the permanency of her work depended heavily on whether clients paid attention to their footsteps for several days after appointments. She also suggested imagining that you are walking barefoot on grass or at the beach or imagining that your feet are connected to the earth through the flooring because eventually all is connected to the earth.
Protect & Ground
The same energy therapist recommended imagining a ray of light that came from Heaven, entering through the crown chakra, running down the spine through the tailbone, and connecting us to the earth.
You can protect yourself and ground yourself pretty easily and quickly in one exercise incorporating that idea: Ideally, you’d do it morning and night.
Imagine yourself protected in a shield of white light. I say a prayer, thanking God for protecting me in the white light of his love and protection. I visualize myself being protected in white light while I am praying.
Then I ask that all negativity and dark energy be removed from my being, transmuted in His white light, and returned to me so that I am infused with His white light of love and protection.
Next I thank God for shielding me from all negativity and dark energy, and I visualize His white light shielding me thusly.
Finally, I ground myself by imagining my feet and tailbone connected to the earth. For my daughter, she prefers to think of herself like a banyan tree, with her feet and tailbone rooted to the earth.
I do this process for my whole family, morning and night. Sometimes I do an abbreviated version, sometimes more thorough.
